Gas Prices Go Up World Wide

The weekly AAA Texas gasoline price survey released Thursday found that a gallon of regular unleaded is selling for $2.68 per gallon, a nickel more than last week. The national average price rose a nickel to $2.86 per gallon this week.
The state’s cheapest gasoline is $2.64 per gallon in San Antonio and Galveston, a nickel more than last week in San Antonio and 4 cents more in Galveston. The most expensive gasoline in Texas is $2.73 per gallon in Amarillo, up a nickel, and Texarkana, where it soared 11 cents from last week. ...

Retail Gasoline and Diesel Prices Increase

The U.S. average retail price for a gallon of gasoline shot up 6 cents from last week to $2.87 per gallon and was $0.20 per gallon higher than last year at this time. The increase was most pronounced in the Midwest, where the gasoline price soared 13 cents versus the previous week. Prices on the Gulf Coast gained four cents, followed by a three cent rise on the East Coast. Relative to the rest of the country, price increases in the Rocky Mountains and on the West Coast were muted, with each region seeing a gain of less than penny from the week before. Gas Prices increased in Newfoundland and Labradors |
For the third week in a row, gas prices have increased in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Public Utilities Board, which regulates prices for gas, diesel and home-heating fuel, allowed retailers to raise the maximum price on gasoline by 2.9 or 3.0 cents per litre. The difference is due to rounding for HST in different pricing zones in the province.
The change means that consumers are paying just over five cents per litre for gas than they were at the beginning of the month.
On the Avalon Peninsula, where prices are cheapest, a litre of self-serve unleaded gas can sell for no more than $1.159 ...

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline hit $2.70 on Thursday, according to the auto club AAA. That's up 67 percent from this time last year, and it's the highest price since October 2008 -- a fact not lost on drivers.

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Prices at the pump probably will continue to rise -- at least in the short run. But they may not be related to the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
While some experts predict the oil spill will likely impact retail gasoline prices, others say the spill shouldn't cause a price increase.
``The oil spill is a serious, serious environmental story and probably a serious political story,'' said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for the Oil Price Information Service, which tracks gasoline prices for AAA.
